Obituary

E. Charles Stockmar, 75, of Charles Town, WV, passed away on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at his daughter's residence, after a long illness.

Born on July 7, 1934, in Orange, NJ, he was the son of the late Ernest and Mildred Farley Stockmar.

He was a member of Zion Episcopal Church in Charles Town.

Mr. Stockmar was a 1956 Graduate of Princeton University. He was a vice president and treasurer of the Bank of New York, with thirteen years of service and later, senior investment officer for the United Nations, with fifteen years of service.

He retired to Charles Town in 1986, to a long-treasured neighborhood of friends and special church family. He later served on the board of the Old Opera House Theatre. He was a helpful and compassionate man who loved animals, making certain that the creature comforts of his pets was quite comparable to that of his own, occasionally better.

He is survived by his daughter, Evelyn S. Norton, and husband, Alan of Harpers Ferry; and three granddaughters, Megan, Lauren and Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of seventeen years, Shirley Thomson Stockmar, in 1975.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at Zion Episcopal Church, 300 East Congress Street, Charles Town, with the Rev. Melanie McCarley officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, US 340 at Halltown Road, Charles Town/Harpers Ferry.
